In memoriam Tibor M. Neiger,

We hereby announce with deep sorrow that on 3 July 2025, at the age of 74, following a prolonged illness, Dr. Tibor M. Neiger, attorney-at-law and honorary associate professor, passed away.

In-house doctoral defence of Dr. Tamás Stipkovits

The in-house defence of Dr. Tamás Stipkovits's doctoral dissertation was held on 17 June 2025, organised by our sister department in private law, the Department of Commercial and Agricultural Law. The preliminary review was conducted by Dr. habil. Anett Pogácsás, Associate Professor (Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Faculty of Law and Political Sciences), and Dr. Péter Szalai, Associate Professor from our own department. The defence was chaired by Dr. András Szegedi, Head of Department and Associate Professor, while Dr. Gergely Horváth, Associate Professor, acted as secretary. The supervisor of the doctoral candidate is Dr. Attila Vermes, Associate Professor. As a result of the high-quality academic discussion, the dissertation was recommended for public defence.

On 12 May 2025, the Faculty held its institutional round of the Scientific Student Conference (TDK), during which a total of 19 papers were presented across 3 sections.

Although there was no separate Civil Law section on this occasion, the department was successfully represented in the Constitutional and International Law Section, where Bálint Kulacs was awarded 1st place for his paper titled "The Constitutionalisation of Personality Rights." His supervisor was Dr Barna Arnold Keserű.

A New Volume Explores the Intersections of Academic Innovation and Intellectual Property

IP Day 2025 – Excellence in Knowledge Valorisation was the title of the professional event organised by the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (HIPO) on 3 April, hosted in the ceremonial hall of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

The event marked the launch of the volume titled Intellectual Property in Academia, which presents both international and domestic regulatory frameworks, along with practical examples that support the commercialisation of academic innovation.

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Professor Barnabás Lenkovics on 30 April 2025. He was laid to rest on 12 May in the cemetery of Gamás, in the presence of close family and friends. A public memorial service was held on 13 May at the Church of Saint John of Capistrano in Budapest. Following the thanksgiving mass, the Constitutional Court, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), and Széchenyi István University bid their final farewell to him. With this obituary, the Department of Civil Law and Civil Procedural Law commemorates its founding head.
