In memoriam Tibor M. Neiger,
We hereby announce with deep sorrow that on 3 July 2025, at the age of 74, following a prolonged illness, Dr. Tibor M. Neiger, attorney-at-law and honorary associate professor, passed away.
Dr. Tibor M. Neiger was born on 21 December 1951 in Zalaegerszeg. He obtained his law degree in 1976 at the Faculty of Law of Janus Pannonius University of Sciences in Pécs. He completed his bar examination in 1978. From 1976 onwards, he worked at the Municipal Court of Pécs as a legal trainee, secretary, and later as a judge. Between 1981 and 1983, at the Legislative Preparatory Department of the Ministry of Justice, he contributed, among other things, to the drafting of Decree-Law No. 4 of 1983 on the Legal Profession. From 1989 to 1991, he served as a judge at the County Court of Komárom-Esztergom.
From 1991 until his death, he practised as an attorney-at-law in Tatabánya. He was an active participant in the professional life of the bar. Between 1991 and 1998, he chaired the Education Committee of the Bar Association of Komárom-Esztergom County. From 2006, he was a member of the General Assembly of the Hungarian Bar Association, as well as of its Disciplinary Committee, where he served as presiding chair of the second-instance disciplinary councils.
As a lawyer, he enjoyed wide professional recognition. Over the past decades, numerous young attorneys were mentored under his guidance. His exemplary professional career was acknowledged in 2020 by the Hungarian Bar Association with the "Outstanding Attorney" award, and he was also honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Bar Association of Komárom-Esztergom County.
Following the establishment of the Faculty of Law in Győr, he applied his professional expertise in the field of legal education. From 1997 onwards, he supported the work of the Department of Civil Law and Civil Procedural Law as a lecturer, where for over one and a half decades he conducted seminars in civil procedural law. In 2004, Széchenyi István University conferred upon him the title of Honorary Associate Professor. From the first graduating class of law students in 2000 until his passing, he was a permanent member of the final examination committees in civil law every semester.
His death constitutes an immense loss to the legal profession, the community of lawyers, and to our Department as well. We will cherish his memory. May he rest in peace.
Our sincere condolences to the Family.
